Abstract: Presents new elastic-viscous-plastic (EVP) constitutive model for sea ice dynamics and hybrid Lagrangian-Eulerian (HLE) numerical solution method based on continuum theory. Introduces modified discrete element model for ice cover in discrete state. Validates EVP this by simulating ice ridging in rectangular basin and comparing with analytical solution from jam theory. Applies HLE numerical model to ice dynamic process in vortex wind field. Discusses in detail use of DEM to simulate discrete sea ice distribution under various ice conditions.
