Record #188254:

Upward looking sonar-based measurements of sea ice and waves: new-generation ice profiler field tested in Northumberland Strait between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island / David B. Fissel, John R. Marko.

Title: Upward looking sonar-based measurements of sea ice and waves: new-generation ice profiler field tested in Northumberland Strait between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island / David B. Fissel, John R. Marko.
Author(s): Fissel, David B.
Marko, John R.
Date: 2009.
In: Sea Technology. (2009.), Vol. 50(6) (2009)
Abstract: Describes principles, development and testing of upward-looking sonar (ULS) instrument designed to provide accurate sea ice thickness and topography data. Notes increasing need for such data to support studies of ice-covered oceans, navigation, offshore design, etc. Summarizes use of ULS ice-profilers in Northern Hemisphere in 1990s and 2000s. Discusses interpretation of ice draft and wave spectra data obtained during deployment from Confederation Bridge across Northumberland Strait during winter 2007/08.
