Abstract: Describes monitoring of periglacial landforms and processes together with thermal state of active layer and top permafrost as part of GeoBasis programme and Zackenberg. Work includes high-frequency monitoring of seasonal thaw progression of active layer at ZEROCALM-1 and ZEROCALM-2 sites and associated modelling; mapping of snow-cover duration in Zackenbergdalen by continuous daily photography and investigation of effect of snow on ground-thermal conditions; development of nivation form-process-sediment model demonstrating large-scale Little Ice Age nivation activity; observations of periglacial landforms, such as ice-wedges, rock glaciers and solifluction lobes, and of active layer sliding and slope and coastal erosion. Discusses importance of Zackenberg as future Greenlandic permafrost observatory.
