Abstract: Uses observations of runout zone, snow depth, snow structure and meteorological conditions in combination with numerical snowpack model to investigate dry slab avalanche that released 5-10 x 10⁴ tonnes of snow. Identifies key snowfall events and formation of faceted crystals on surface subsequently covered by thick layer of new snow, reducing stability index to 0.5 at time of avalanche release.
