High mountain geodata as a crucial criterion of research: case studies from Khumbu Himal (Nepal) and Mount Aconcagua (Argentina) / W. Sulzer, J. Gspurning.

Title: High mountain geodata as a crucial criterion of research: case studies from Khumbu Himal (Nepal) and Mount Aconcagua (Argentina) / W. Sulzer, J. Gspurning.
Author(s): Sulzer, W.
Gspurning, J.
Date: 2009.
In: International Journal of Remote Sensing. (2009.), Vol. 30(7) (2009)
Abstract: Evaluates usability of available and low-cost data (maps, ASTER and Landsat data, e.g.), including topographic maps, remote sensing and GIS data for high mountain research activities. Discusses challenges for geospatial technologies in high mountain environments and presents case studies from Khumbu Himal and Mount Aconcagua. Discusses topographic accuracy, extraction of glaciological information (glaciers, glacial lakes, etc.), multitemporal investigations, and generation of digital elevation models and image maps. Emphasizes importance of accuracy analyses of available geodata for geoscience research.
