Abstract: Evaluates superstructure and atmosphere icing hazard on offshore platforms and supply boats with location and operation on the structure. Also explains potential impact of icing by icing type: sea spray, snow, glaze, rime, frost and sleet. Identifies 14 ice protection technologies for anti-icing, de-icing and ice protection, involving chemicals, ice phobic coatings, structure design, expulsive techniques, heat, high-volume water, air and steam, infrared energy, manual de-icing, piezoelectric methods, pneumatic boots, vibration and covers, and as separate categories windows, cables and ice detection methods. Describes each technology with regard to availability, use, design, readiness, capability and development required for transfer to offshore use, and makes recommendations regarding their application.
