Record #188207:

Ice jam at the Rio Blanco Diversion Weir on the White River in Colorado: a case study of in-stream structures and ice: final report / Andrew M. Tuthill.

Title: Ice jam at the Rio Blanco Diversion Weir on the White River in Colorado: a case study of in-stream structures and ice: final report / Andrew M. Tuthill.
Author(s): Tuthill, Andrew M.
Date: 2008.
In: ERDC/CRREL Technical Report. (2008.), TR-08-1 (2008)
Abstract: Examines use of in-stream structures constructed of natural materials (e.g. rock weirs, which provide aesthetic means of pooling and diverting flow for irrigation and lake filling) in rivers affected by ice. Presents case study of rock diversion weir that caused freeze-up ice jam, channel shifting and upstream flooding, describing event and analyzing its causes. Offers preliminary guidance on design against similar ice problems.
