Title: | Cryogels - a promising material for underground works in permafrost / L.K. Atunina, V.A. Kuvshinov, S.N. Dolgikh. |
Author(s): | Atunina, L. K. Kuvshinov, V. A. Dolgikh, S. N. |
Date: | 2006. |
Publisher: | Dordrecht: Springer |
In: | Advances in the geological storage of carbon dioxide : international approaches to reduce anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions. (2006.), |
Abstract: | Notes that long-term underground storage of CO₂ in permafrost regions implies permafrost conservation and consolidation and discusses potential role of cryogels for such engineering works. Describes development of systems capable of generation of polymer gels at 0-20°C, and conversion during freeze-thaw cycles to cryogels exhibiting high elasticity and adhesion to rock. Reports laboratory and field experiments, including pilot tests conducted to seal a leak at base of dam at Irelyakh hydrosystem. |
