Abstract: Presents brief overview of world-wide epidemiological studies of occupational Ni exposure. Summarises investigations and results of Russian reproductive and developmental health initiative to assess whether maternal occupational exposure to Ni in early pregnancy increases risk of congenital malformations in newborns. Highlights main challenges for studies of effects of occupational exposure, in particular potential for misclassification of exposure.
