Abstract: Discusses challenges to Arctic posed by ships operating in support of several global industries (oil and gas industry, hard minerals industry and global marine tourist industry). Observes that marine infrastructure readily accessible to shipping industry in most of world's oceans is not available in Arctic Ocean. Recommends creation of unified, international set of regulations to replace patchwork of rules currently applied by various Arctic coastal states.
