Abstract: Reports results of summertime measurements of CO₂ and CH₄ fluxes carried out over range of High-Arctic ecosystem types in Zackenbergdalen since 1996, using both chamber and eddy covariance methodology. Net ecosystem CO₂ exchange and CH₄ flux data reveal high degree of inter-annual variability within dominant vegetation types in valley, but also show distinct differences between them. In general, wet parts of valley show high productivity, whereas CO₂ uptake rates in heaths dominated by white Arctic bell heather (Cassiope tetragona) and mountain avens (Dryas spp.) are much smaller.
