Record #187859:

Effects of food availability, snow and predation on breeding performance of waders at Zackenberg / Hans Meltofte, Toke T. Høye, Niels M. Schmidt.

Title: Effects of food availability, snow and predation on breeding performance of waders at Zackenberg / Hans Meltofte, Toke T. Høye, Niels M. Schmidt.
Author(s): Meltofte, Hans.
Høye, Toke T.
Schmidt, Niels M.
Date: 2008.
Publisher: Amsterdam: Academic Press
In: High-Arctic ecosystem dynamics in a changing climate : ten years of monitoring and research at Zackenberg Research Station, northeast Greenland. (2008.),
Abstract: Discusses influence of food availability and snow-cover on population densities and timing of egg-laying of Arctic-breeding waders. Notes that early egg-laying seems essential, as it increases chances for re-laying in event of nest failure, optimises timing of hatching of chicks in relation to peak period of arthropod food, facilitates early departure of adults, and maximises time available for young to grow strong before onset of winter.
