Record #187808:

Zinc accumulation in lichens due to industrial emissions around Vorkuta, northeast European Russia / Tony R. Walker.

Title: Zinc accumulation in lichens due to industrial emissions around Vorkuta, northeast European Russia / Tony R. Walker.
Author(s): Walker, Tony R.
Date: 2008.
In: Polish Polar Research. (2008.), Vol. 29(2) (2008)
Abstract: Determines zinc concentration in apices [Zn²⁺]apex of lichens, Cladonia arbuscula and C. rangiferina along transects through sub-Arctic towns of Vorkuta and Inta. Zinc accumulation in lichens detected 25-40 km within vicinity of Vorkuta, was largely attributed to local emissions from coal combustion. Compares results with previous studies suggesting lichen is useful bioindicator for trace metals.
