| Abstract: | Presents interpretation of life stories of indigenous women in Yakutiya. Analyses individual biographies of several women focusing on agency of indigenous women in contemporary Russian reality. Argues that economic crisis in Russia and its social consequences are reasons for women taking action. Juxtaposes contemporary portraits of indigenous women with traditional values and image of women which enables them to face challenges and adapt to change. |
