Abstract: Documents nature of two Saami kinship-based communities (pogosty) on western Kola Peninsula from 1880s to Second World War. Sheds light on reindeer herding communities in region prior to economic and political processes which led to large-scale changes in Saami society during 20th century. In conclusion examines decades of rapid and extensive modernisation after Revolution which ended in relocation and/or abandonment of Babinski and Ekostrovsky pogosty.
