Abstract: Presents vertical profiles of dissolved iron (DFe) and nutrients from outer shelf and mid shelf of northern Bering Sea during spring 2007, in order to understand influence of ice melt on distribution of DFe compared with other nutrients in these areas, as well as possible implications for spring phytoplankton bloom. Finds that outer shelf areas not influenced by ice melt do not contain sufficient DFe relative to available nitrate, whereas outer shelf areas with melting sea ice influence contain sufficient DFe relative to available nitrate. Melting sea ice appears to provide source of DFe to outer shelf that is important in maintaining ice-edge blooms.
