| Abstract: | Presents examination of genetic variation in mitonchodrial control region of bowhead whales (Balaena mysticetus) among various spatial, temporal and age-related strata. Comparisons are based on sequences from 382 samples. Finds no significant differences in spatial comparisons or temporal comparisons along Alaska's North Slope, but some evidence of genetic heterogeneity between some age cohorts (specifically between animals born prior to 1918 and those born after 1979, between those born 1918-1949 and those born after 1979, and between aforementioned older cohorts and those born after 1979. |
