| Abstract: | Air survey data confirmed in 2006 twofold decline in harp seal population of White Sea. Reports fewer seals in pupping sites alongside changes in reproductive behaviour and intensity of females. Notes deterioration in food availability and habitat resulting in decrease in ovulation and pregnancy. Argues for need to study reproduction and feeding habits of females using ship surveys for longer observation period. |
