Record #187375:

Outflow of Pacific water from the Chukchi Sea to the Arctic Ocean / Robert S. Pickart, Greg Stossmeister.

Title: Outflow of Pacific water from the Chukchi Sea to the Arctic Ocean / Robert S. Pickart, Greg Stossmeister.
Author(s): Pickart, Robert S.
Stossmeister, Greg.
Date: 2008.
In: Chinese Journal of Polar Science. (2008.), Vol. 19(2) (2008)
Abstract: Summarises transformations undergone by Pacific water in two canyons (Barrow Canyon in east and Herald Canyon in west), and describes characteristics and variability of resulting shelfbreak jet, using recently collected summertime hydrographic and year-long mooring data set. In both canyons northward-flowing Pacific winter water switches from western to eastern flank of canyon, interacting with northward-flowing summer water. Shelfbreak jet forming from canyon outflows has distinct seasonal configurations, from bottom-intensified flow carrying cold, dense Pacific water in spring, to surface-intensified current advecting warm, buoyant water in summer.
