| Abstract: | Discusses impacts of climate change in Arctic region as identified by Arctic Climate Impact Assessment (ACIA) and International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD). Notes that recent scientific assessments have provided clear evidence of impacts of climate change on biodiversity, and consequent effect on indigenous and local communities. Considers role of United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity in addressing threats to biodiversity and ecosystem services through scientific assessments, development of tools, incentives and processes, transfer of technologies and good practices, and full and active involvement of relevant governmental and non-governmental bodies. |
