Record #187273:

Radar observations of Arctic bird migration in the Beringia region / A. Hedenström, and 7 others.

Title: Radar observations of Arctic bird migration in the Beringia region / A. Hedenström, and 7 others.
Author(s): Hedenström, A.
Date: 2009.
In: Arctic. (2009.), Vol. 62(1) (2009)
Abstract: Reports studies of bird migration undertaken during ship-based expedition in Beringia region between 30 July-19 August 2005. Expedition recorded 557 tracks (average duration 120 seconds) of bird flocks or individuals on post-breeding migration. Dominant eastward-flying flocks were mostly composed of shorebirds in transit from breeding areas in central or eastern Siberia to intermediate stopovers and final destinations in North and South America. At two areas, Chukchi Sea and Koluchinskaya Bay, there was also westward component of migrants. At Chukchi Sea these were almost certainly passerine birds migrating from Alaska to wintering areas in Asia and Africa.
