Abstract: Describes use of spatially-defined human social units ("community clusters") based on demographic or ecological units being managed, to ensure co-management systems fully integrate harvesters into local management of resources. Examines polar bear (Ursus maritimus) management in Nunavut, and use of community to provide forum for collection and analysis of traditional ecological knowledge over geographical area mirroring management unit.
