Abstract: Examines relations between microrelief, depth, vegetation and temperature field in polygon mires, in order to reconstruct development of a polygon mire and summarize results in conceptual model. Presents case study carried out in 2003 in eastern part of Yana-Indigirka lowlands of Sakha Republic (Yakutia), involving observations of vegetation, relief, thaw depth, water level, pH and ground temperature-depth profile, analysed in GIS and complemented by peat core for palaeoecological reconstruction. Compares four ice wedge polygons, establishes feedback mechanisms controlling evolution and assesses equilibrium.
