Abstract: Notes potentially damaging effects of seismic waves in talik zones and melting soils. Argues that Yakutsk is zone of special seismic danger due to earthquake risk, anthropogenic degradation of active layer of permafrost zone and condition of ferroconcrete foundations in city. Uses geomorphological maps and visual inspection to assess seismogeogryological conditions in city and vicinity. Concludes that conditions at top of thermoactive layer (STL) are extremely adverse for stability of buildings, constructions and city landscapes subject to earthquakes of intensity 5 or above on MSK-64 scale. Makes recommendations regarding building specifications, mapping, and cryosol and engineering-geocryological forecasts for area until 2050.
