Abstract: Examines data from upper permafrost temperature monitoring in taiga landscapes between Lena and Kenkeme rivers. Obtains Pearson correlation coefficients indicating strong correlation between mean annual permafrost surface temperature and duration of active layer freezeback (r=0.92 for both sandy and silty soils). Results indicate that lengthening of freezeback period by one month results in warming of mean annual permafrost surface temperatures by, on average, 0.8°C (sands) and 1°C (silts)
