Record #187003:

Response of a Montenegro glacier to extreme summer heatwaves in 2003 and 2007 / Philip D. Hughes.

Title: Response of a Montenegro glacier to extreme summer heatwaves in 2003 and 2007 / Philip D. Hughes.
Author(s): Hughes, Philip D.
Date: 2008.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2008.), Vol. 4 (2008)
Abstract: Examines recent fluctuations of Debeli Namet glacier in Durmitor massif, one of lowest altitude glaciers (2050-2300 m) in latitude range 42°-44°N. Glacier survives well below climatological equilibrium line because of inputs from avalanching and wind-blown snow. Notes significant retreat as result of hot summers 2003 and 2007, with advances in intervening years in which summers were cooler. Examines: climate trends in Montenegro during 20th and 21st centuries using meteorological records; relationships between climate changes reflected in these records and glacier behaviour; role of local climatic controls on glacier formation at this site.
