Типизация арктическых шельфов по условиям формирования мерзлых толщ

Title: Типизация арктическых шельфов по условиям формирования мерзлых толщ
Title, transliterated: Tipizat︠s︡ii︠a︡ arkticheskykh shelʹfov po uslovii︠a︡m formirovanii︠a︡ merzlykh tolshch / A.V. Gavrilov.
Translated title: Geocryological typification of Arctic shelves according to frozen strata formation.
Author(s): Gavrilov, A. V.
Date: 2008.
Language: Russian.
In: Kriosfera Zemli. (2008.), Vol. 12(3) (2008)
Abstract: Classifies Arctic continental shelves according to condition of permafrost formations. Argues that main determining factor was glacial cover (formed during cryochrons) and its location in respect to shelves. Glaciers determined depth of ground freezing and formation of fresh water basins during deglaciation, and influenced character and drainage and flooding of shelves due to glacial-isostatic movements. Establishes three shelf types: glacial (Barents and Kara seas); non-glacial (Laptev, East Siberian and Chukchi seas) and sub-glacial (Beaufort sea). Types differ substantially in composition of cryolithozone and extent and thickness of permafrost layers.
