Stable isotope composition of plants and peat from Arctic mire and geothermal area in Iceland / Grzegorz Skrzypek, Debajojyoti Paul, Bronislaw Wojtuń.
Title: | Stable isotope composition of plants and peat from Arctic mire and geothermal area in Iceland / Grzegorz Skrzypek, Debajojyoti Paul, Bronislaw Wojtuń. |
Author(s): | Skrzypek, Grzegorz. Paul, Debajojyoti. Wojtuń, Bronislaw. |
Date: | 2008. |
In: | Polish Polar Research. (2008.), Vol. 29(4) (2008) |
Abstract: | Presents stable hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen and oxygen isotope compositions and element ratios for peat and plant samples (liverworts, mosses, sedge, willow, grass) from two contrasting ecosystems in Iceland: Arctic mire at north-west coast (Drangajökull) and geothermal area (Kerlingarfjöll). Finds primary element ratios and isotopic composition of parent organic matter seem to be conserved despite organic decay during and after formation of peat in colder climates (e.g. in Arctic). In particular, carbon isotope composition and C:N ratios in parent plant material are well conserved in peat sediments. |
