Abstract: Identifies and describes three major socio-economic shifts in Greenland during 19th and 20th centuries, all induced by interactions between natural system of climate change and socio-economic and socio-technical system of resource exploitation: shift from sea-mammal to fisheries-based economy (late 19th century); from cod fisheries to mono-economy based on shrimp fisheries (1970s and 1980s); and continuing shift towards more diversified economy.
