Record #186388:

A study of tidal influences in the North Water Polynya using short time span satellite imagery / R.F. Vincent, R.F. Marsden.

Title: A study of tidal influences in the North Water Polynya using short time span satellite imagery / R.F. Vincent, R.F. Marsden.
Author(s): Vincent, R. F.
Marsden, R. F.
Date: 2008.
In: Arctic. (2008.), Vol. 61(4) (2008)
Abstract: Investigates mechanism that maintains North Water Polynya during Arctic winter and spring, using data from Advanced Very High Resiolution Radiometer (AVHRR) images to map thermal features over tidal cycle. Evidence suggests amount of open water in polynya during March and April is related to velocity of current, which in turn is influenced by tidal cycle. Open water caused by tide-induced movement of ice then allows oceanic heat to escape into environment.
