Brucella spp. in the western North Pacific and Antarctic Cetaceans: a review / Kazue Ohishi, Yoshihiro Fujise, Tadashi Maruyama.

Title: Brucella spp. in the western North Pacific and Antarctic Cetaceans: a review / Kazue Ohishi, Yoshihiro Fujise, Tadashi Maruyama.
Author(s): Ohishi, Kazue.
Fujise, Yoshihiro.
Maruyama, Tadashi.
Date: 2008.
In: Journal of Cetacean Research and Management. (2008.), Vol. 10(1) (2008)
Abstract: Serological and pathological studies of causative agent of brucellosis found no Brucella-specific antibodies in serum samples from 104 Antarctic minke whales killed under Japanese Special Permit. This is in contrast to results for North Pacific, where Brucella-specific antibodies were observed in 38% of common minke whales sampled. Lesions were observed in testes and uterine endometrium in 35% of common minke whales in North Pacific, but were not observed in any of 440 Antarctic minke whales.
