Late Permian to Middle Triassic palaeogeographic differentiation of key ammonoid groups: evidence from the former USSR / Yuri D. Zakharov, Alexander M. Popov, Alexander S. Biakov.

Title: Late Permian to Middle Triassic palaeogeographic differentiation of key ammonoid groups: evidence from the former USSR / Yuri D. Zakharov, Alexander M. Popov, Alexander S. Biakov.
Author(s): Zakharov, Yuri D.
Popov, Alexander M.
Biakov, Alexander S.
Date: 2008.
In: Polar Research. (2008.), Vol. 27(3) (2008)
Abstract: Reviews palaeontological characteristics of the Upper Permian and upper Olenekian to earliest Anisian sequences in the Tethys and the Boreal realm, in context of global correlation. Examines data from key Wuchiapingian and Changhsingian sections in Transcaucasia, Lower and Middle Triassic sections in Verkhoyansk area (Sakha Republic), southern Far East (South Primor'ye and Kitakami) and Mangyshlak (Kazakhstan). Shows dominant groups of ammonoids for each region. Finds that successive expansions and reductions of warm-temperate climatic zones into middle and high latitudes during Late Permian and Early and Middle Triassic are result of strong climatic fluctuations.
