| Abstract: | Investigates mountain permafrost distribution in Abisko region, northern Sweden, using empirical data (obtained using bottom temperature of snow cover method, and continuous ground temperature measurements) and statistical analysis (to model probability of permafrost occurrence). Also uses geographically weighted regression (GWR) as exploratory tool for detection of non-stationarity in relationship between permafrost and independent variables. Models show probabilities >0.8 for permafrost at elevations above 1,300 m a.s.l. in western part of region. In eastern part, probabilities are likely to be influenced by potential incoming shortwave summer radiation, indicating probability >0.8 above 850 m a.s.l. on east-facing slopes, above 1,000 m on west-facing slopes and above 1,100 m on south-facing slopes. |
