Title: Creating a global ocean conveyor: George Deacon and The hydrology of the Southern Ocean / Eric L. Mills.
Author(s): Mills, Eric L.
Date: 2007.
Publisher: Sagamore Beach, MA: Science History Publications
In: Extremes : oceanography's adventures at the poles. (2007.),

Discovery II and his subsequent publication in 1937 of work demonstrating continuity of Antarctic convergence, formation of Antarctic intermediate water around Southern Hemisphere, and linkage between zonal and meridional currents. Includes assessment of earlier oceanographic work by Emil von Lenz on Kotzebue's 1823-26 circumnavigation; J.Y. Buchanan and Alexander Buchan and results of the Challenger expedition; Gerhard Schott on 1898-99 Valdiva expedition; Wilhelm Brennecke on 1906-07 Planet and 1911-12 Deutschland expedition; and Merz and Wüst's Atlantische Vertikalzirkulation published in 1922.
