| Abstract: | Investigates density, age structure, growth, and root systems of mountain birch (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii) seedlings in different microsite classes. Finds locally varying environmental conditions strongly affect below-ground characteristics of young growth, with root systems clearly reflecting differences in soil moisture and nutrient supply along microtopographical gradient. |
