Abstract: Explores implications of biophysical changes in Arctic for pursuit of governance in region. Argues that reactions to current situation are more alarmist than alarming; also that recent developments provide opportunity to reassess effectiveness of existing political arrangements, and to enquire about need for new forms of governance. Argues against claims of those who believe comprehensive, legally binding Arctic treaty is now necessary.
