Abstract: Presents comparative study of diurnal variations in ionospheric F2 layer at Zhongshan and Tromsø in winter, based on analysis of data from 1996-98 and 2002. Discusses main physical processes responsible for F region ionosphere over Zhongshan and Tromsø. Results indicate mechanisms relating to foF2 diurnal variation are not identical, although both Zhongshan and Tromsø have similar geographical latitudes.
