| Abstract: | Presents controlled, four-way, cross-cultural comparison of gender and subsistence, using results of anthropological research employing task-differentiation methodology in studies of Chipewyan hunter-fishers of Canada, Khanty hunter-fisher-herders of western Siberia, Saami intensive reindeer herders of north-western Finland, and Iñupiaq maritime hunters of Bering Strait. Data on gender and subsistence are used to reassess major concept in anthropology and social science: gender-based division of labour. |
