Abstract: Investigates vegetation gradient in peatland, using TWINSPAN classification system. Classifies vegetation, interprets vegetation gradients by ordination, and analyses peat thickness for TWINSPAN communities and species from small-sized sample plots over minerotrophic mire expanse vegetation from Hirvisuo aapa-mire complex, northern Finland. Finds mire-ecological water-table gradient divides into two vegetation gradients: gradient formed by mire surface level; and stability of water regime (which represents gradient of local importance over boreal Fennoscandia).
