Review of experiences within ice and iceberg management / Kenneth Eik.

Title: Review of experiences within ice and iceberg management / Kenneth Eik.
Author(s): Eik, Kenneth.
Date: 2008.
In: Journal of Navigation. (2008.), Vol. 61(4) (2008)
Abstract: Reviews management of ice during offshore petroleum activities in cold waters, aiming to increase safety and efficiency of such work. Examines activities influenced by sea ice or iceberg presence, identifying type of ice regime, tools and methodology used to track ice, and methods of avoiding ice damage. Sections describe relevant projects in Beaufort Sea, east coast of Canada (Grand Banks), west coast of Greenland (Fyllas Banke), Arctic Ocean, Barents Sea, Pechora Sea, offshore Sakhalin Island. Views detection and handling of icebergs in open waters as "good", but technology for detecting and deflection of icebergs in sea ice unproven.
