| Abstract: | Presents mass balance measurements made using stake, or direct glaciological, method to determine net accumulation and ablation of snow and ice during accumulation and ablation periods and over net mass balance year. Presents snow pit density observations, balance estimates for individual years, maps of balance distribution, distribution of balance with elevation, relationship between summer balance and temperature. Cumulative net balance over period is -8.1 m w.e., representing approximately 7% of 1994 glacier volume. Four balance years showed negative balance over entire glacier. Shows mass balance trend of Mittivakkat Glacier similar to that of Greenland ice sheet. |
