| Abstract: | Examines paraglacial processes at work in region of Haut Arc during post-Little Ice Age deglaciation. Summarizes glaciological and geomorphological context and describes continuity of paraglacial processes operating over last 150 years. Discusses development of margin of glacier du Baounet, including proglacial and supraglacial lakes, sandur, paraglacial sedimentation processes and remobilization of lateral moraines. Also describes new phenomena associated with recent acceleration of glacial retreat, such as feedback in which aeolian sediments produced by paraglacial system increase summer ablation by darkening nearby glacier surfaces. |
