| Abstract: | Reviews definitions of terms "landsystem" and "paraglacial", indicating earth-surface processes that, though non-glacial, are directly conditioned by glaciation and deglaciation. Proposes new definition of term "paraglacial landsystem", based on spatial and temporal points of view, and examines system's operation and evolution in changing climate over time scales ranging from instantaneous to one million years. Argues that long-term sediment storage makes life expectancy of paraglacial landsystem longer than typical interglacial period, so that paraglacial sequence is incomplete when new glacial period begins. |
