| Abstract: | Describes radio echo soundings made on three outlets of Vatnajökull flowing east from Óraefajökull. Shows that beds of Kvíárjökull and Fjallsjökull reach 180 and 100 metres below sea level, respectively, and that all three glaciers are retreating. Predicts dimensions of lagoons that will appear if retreats continue. Estimates volumes of sediment excavated by three glaciers during Little Ice Age and note that inferred erosion rates are significantly lower than those reported for neighbouring outlets of Breidamerkujökull and Hoffellsjökull. |
