| Abstract: | Examines relationships between glacier mass balance and Elementary Circulation Mechamisms (ECMs) occurring in NE Siberia and Polar Urals (according to Dzerdzeyevsky some 41 ECMs describe all atmospheric macrocirculation processes). Summarizes characteristics of various ECMs and examines their regional occurrences and influences, using data from meteorological stations to identify those ECMs most closely linked to ablation and accumulation on glacier No. 31 in Suntar-Khayata range and IGAN glacier in Polar Urals. Also identifies ECMs associated with glacial mudflows, glacier floods and avalanches. Reports, for example, that ECMS 9a and 13s "promote" formation of glacial mudflows and glacial floods in both regions. |
