| Abstract: | Reviews scientific work and organizational activity of glaciologist, photogrammetrist and founder of Department of Glaciology of Institute of Geography RAS. Department celebrated 100th anniversary in 2006. Avsyuk applied stereophotogrammetry to studies of glacier fluctuation and movement, notably in Tien Shan, and was first in Russia to use pseudo-parallax method for measurement of ice velocity. Describes modern development of Avsyuk's work with geoinformation and remote sensing technologies, covering glacier changes in Tien Shan, Polar Urals, Pamirs, Kamchatka, etc., dynamics of glaciers of Pamirs, evolution of Elbrus' glaciation, etc. |
