| Abstract: | Examines characteristics and statistics of avalanche accidents in Sakhalin during period 1928-2006. Divides avalanches into morphological (channelled or snow slide) and snow (compound snow, new snow, drifted snow, drifted from new snow, sublimation recrystallization snow) types. Examines aspect, year, month and victim age distributions and statistics of damage to buildings, cars and railway vans. In total 132 avalanches involved 704 people, with 78 avalanches responsible for total of 304 fatalities. |
