| Abstract: | Examines changes in glaciers of in Pamir range since 1957. Reports some glaciers have grown in area, but that total glacier area has shrunk over whole period, at rate higher during 1980-2000 than during pre-1980 period. Tabulates changes in areas of glaciers of Muksu and Sel'dary basins, and of surging glaciers in those groups, based on estimates made in 1966, 1980 and 2000 (Muksu group) and 1957, 1980 and 2000 (Sel'dary group, including Fedchenko glacier). Lists length changes of 34 Pamir glaciers over various recent periods. Discusses reliability of glacier change estimates based on Landsat 7 ETM+ and TERRA scenes. |
