| Abstract: | Calculates ice flow velocities at different depths of East Antarctic ice sheet using data from boreholes drilled near Vostok, Vostok-1, Pionerskaya and Mirny stations. Analyzes results to show that ice dynamics within depth range 0-450 m have stratified structure correlated over whole profile from Vostok to Mirny. Identifies both uniform and distinctive features of dynamics in each region, and influence of morphological structures created by mountains of Gamburtsev and Golitsyn mountains. Determines that upper 0-100 m-layer is local dynamic structure of ice sheet surface whose flow is significantly different from that of underlying ice. Discusses ramifications for studying East Antarctic ice sheet dynamics. |
