Abstract: Investigates acid mine drainage from abandoned coal mine waste rock pile in Svalbard. Analyses samples of water from pile to determine temporal variations in runoff chemistry and calculate release of dissolved metals. Also quantifies dissolved and "labile" speciation for both 2005 and 2006 using chemical equilibrium model WHAM VI. Finds highest concentrations of dissolved metals and potentially free toxic metal ions in runoff from studied waste rock pile during early spring.
